About

Whüzy is a 5-piece band from the greater Chicagoland area, who’s music and live performances have been accumulating traction within the region for over half a decade. Their sound could be best described as an experience of colorful and sedating melodies, tied together with groovy rhythms and memorable lyrics, all within the realm of Indie-Rock and Dream-Pop.

Whüzy formed and began performing live in 2017, and dropped their first 6-track EP, “Jellyfish”, in 2019. The world shut down soon after, which kickstarted the group into writing a collaborative EP over video chat with late partnering band Midcoast (“Whüzy & Midcoast”, 2021), which was then followed by a single (“Island Girl”, 2021), 7-track EP (“Dreaming”, 2022), and two music videos (“Take Five”, 2021 and “Riding on a Cosine”, 2023). All of their releases thus far are self-produced.

The official members of Whüzy have remained Maarty Metzalaar (Lead Vocals / Guitar), Brian Shull (Guitar), Raul Castillo (Bass), Chris Hansen (Keys) and Anthony Friedli (Drums) ever since Anthony entered the group in late 2019, following their debut release. Since then, they have remained steadily performing at happenings primarily throughout the Chicagoland area, ranging from festival afterparties to fundraising events, while continuously writing and planning out their future releases.
